The Academy of Korean Studies achieves research competitiveness of international standards by encouraging our professors to undertake overseas research and by helping professors and students to participate in international academic events. We also are seeking to make qualitative improvements in Graduate School education and to revitalize international research exchanges by promoting the release and distribution of domestic research results and the development of Korean studies research. Not just limited to activities regarding domestic research, the Academy of Korean Studies also provides the proper foundation in order to attain international standards in research competitiveness through exchanges with foreign universities and research institutions, participating in international academic conferences and by analyzing the newest trends in academic research. The Academy of Korean Studies facilitates the research activities of professors in foreign countries, provides assistance to attend overseas academic events and cultivates academic exchange agreements.
Assisting the research activities of professors in foreign countries
The Academy of Korean Studies achieves research competitiveness of international standards and seeks to distribute domestic research achievements and the progress in the research of Korean studies by assisting overseas research of professors belonging to the Academy of Korean Studies. The Academy of Korean Studies has assisted the research efforts of a total of 76 professors in 46 institutions in 13 countries as of 2009. Applications are accepted through the homepage of the Academy of Korean Studies every September, and selected applicants can receive research funds for up to 1 year including airfares.
Assisting participation at overseas academic conferences
The Academy of Korean Studies contributes to the improvement in research capabilities and the development of Korean studies in foreign countries by providing assistance to our professors and the students enrolled in the Graduate School of Korean Studies to attend academic conferences. The Academy of Korean Studies has assisted total a 101 professors and students so that they could participate in academic conferences from 2000 to 2009. Applications can be submitted throughout the year, and selected applicants can receive the airfare price within the allocated budget.
Conclusion of academic exchange agreements
The Academy of Korean Studies has concluded academic exchange agreements in order to promote academic exchanges, research collaboration and friendly relations with competent Overseas Korean Studies organizations. The Academy of Korean Studies has devised ways to support overseas Korean studies by promoting the exchange of professors and students, engaging in joint research efforts, exchanging academic information and contributing to the establishment of a Korean studies network through these agreements. The Academy of Korean Studies has concluded academic exchange agreements with a total of 20 institutions as of 2009.
